Rad, belated welcome bro. Have been standing on a R200 hair straightener, with as much force as I can muster, myself. Prefer to sit and smoke a spliff rather than dab, but wow, well worth a DIY pleb press to sample the flavour profiles of the harvest, unadulterated. Keen to see your setup(s) when you do post.

Don't do so myself but sand is effective, ya. Need to be careful not to choke off air from the rootball so generally not a good idea with plastic pots, apparently ok with fabric pots. Also, the buggers will enter through the drainage holes too. Couldn't comment on shale, but I would assume it depends on how small the particulate is, same warning with starving oxygen from the rootzone.

Sorry for the continued necro.... That's pretty sweet! Thanks m8! How'd the sponges hold up? Any dodgy growth? I have one of the little hygrometers which are used in humidors. It is calibrated at 65% by moistening salt in a soda cap and shoving in a ziplock bag. Seems to lineup with your 66% sponge readings. I wonder what would be the best bet at not absorbing scent and flavour, as some peeps say the humidipaks do... perhaps need to scour some cigar forums

Rather just order through a reputable seed bank website. No need to order through an app Link. Spam. Pretty sure I've seen another user post a link to the same site... Perhaps shouldn't allow users to post links until they've reached an allotted post count?

(Poll) Trim - What do you do with your trim

Looool, greenies in a 6-pack. -
Ah, thanks. Feel a bit better about my own oversight now Deleted cookies for only this site (dislike deleting all cookies) and works fine now. I'd imagine Tor doesn't store any cookies and the forum is trying to validate access to a restricted area, via a cookie - or something to this extent. Toby[/member] some good info in the SCROG post, thanks! Sticky?
-
Ok this is my bad, sorry all. Checked with Firefox and it loads fine. Chrome spits me to a login page. Private browsing window in Chrome works fine, so must be an arbitrary cookie issue my side. Apologies!
-
Looking great bro. May SCROG next run, hopefully can full it out as nicely as that. Busted link, or rather post doesn't exist anymore / no access, etc. In fact, seeing that's linked in your sig. none of your sig. links work for me either... JustinHemp420[/member] a sprayer with wand does the trick. A little slow unless you get a good one, but that's better for the girls anyway.

Compressed kief Wrapped in small square of coffee filter Placed in parchment paper Pressed in hair iron Notes: Coffee filter works, but seems to be a tad too absorbent, wasting precious yield. May also let through some other gunk dirtying final product, not too bad though. Use as little as can, but I was trying to make sure it didn't split/unfold. Get pressing screen. Hair iron at 140 C is too hot. It's not flat making it a nightmare to keep in place. Pay more, get a better hair iron. Kief yielded easy peasy. Tried some partially dried bud, not as much joy, piss poor yield. Need more pressure I'd guess. Possibly will try a clamp with some better material when available and see how that goes. Bubble will give a go too. EDIT: for collection, I found the 'wrap a piece of parchment around your finger method' the easiest by far.

First attempt at some rosin. Merely used kief/pollen collected from grinder. Worked pretty well though need to muck about a bit to improve yield. The hair iron is a POS

Shiiit son, that's impressive. Probs a more supplemental spectrum, but wow. Still 2.9 on the little more full spectrum. Not sure what diodes they're using, or whether there's any proprietary tech. but clearly quality. QBs are well documented to be using the Samsung S6 (older spec use S5) diodes. Watt for watt it's still going to pump out heat, but you should see a wattage reduction for comparable light levels and therefore reduction in btu. Bigger difference is the lack of radiant heat, particularly IR, allowing for a couple degrees higher temps. as optimal, further reducing cooling requirement as your target temp. is higher.

Awesome, happy building If you have the space available, having two separate cabs is pretty useful and easier to manage IMO.
-
Nothing too definitive to be fair, jury is still out. Frost for days; if growing for extracts/concentrates, looks like it'd be a no brainer. For a deep and dense canopy: a must for light penetration. Anything else would be extrapolating too far. The best I can say conclusively, other than the above, is I will definitely do it again (preferably with at least a control plant), provided I am filling the space sufficiently.

Thanks m8

Yep, likely just transpiration, agree with CerealKilla. Gets trapped between the leaves and accumulates. Plant sweat is pretty much what it is. If they cannot be nudged or gently bent out the way to avoid sitting right on top of each other, I cut one. Not an issue in itself, but the moisture can provide a nice environment for molds and such. Pretty normal in my opinion. If you start seeing guttation (beads of 'sweat' collecting on the tips of the serrated leaf edges) it's possible water levels are a bit high in res. or RH is too high, or some air movement is required.

Then perhaps the fuss is about an affiliate link to garner a commission not sure, only skimmed through the vid. I think Gavitas give you 1.9 umol/J - right? Sanlight, QB, other fixtures using quality diodes hitting 2.2-2.4 umol/J - I believe. Heat *should* be much lower with LED as there's way less radiant heat and slightly higher temps are preferred with LED. So you may really like that, push some of the aircon wattage into lighting, or just save $$. Also you can tinker with the spectrum a bit. As you're happy DIYing you could look into just importing QBs and drivers, tap your own heatsinks, make your own frame(s) etc. and knock off a few bob, potentially sacrificing warranty benefit of a prebuilt fixture though. COBs get the job done but they're a bit silly for thermal management. The surface area for heat dissipation is tiny, requiring OTT heatsinks for passive cooling. Imagine having that jet engine fan in the vid in your grow . If you're a savage, there's people overdriving the QBs and pulling ridiculous wattage, much like overclockers do on CPUs.

Thanks m8

[EDIT: I went off on a tangent after misinterpreting the question. Dunno what the fuss is... perhaps it's got a great colour rating and therefore useful in audio/visual or have you seen grower's fussing over it] Would defs look at QB type tech. if you're looking at investing in LEDs. The spread and thermal management, primarily, are way more attractive, and the efficiency depending on drive currents. For COBs: Veros or Citizens are the better choices with Cree being a little on the expenny side. The more COBs you can pack in, the better, in order to have better spread and lower hanging heights (debatable benefits for hanging heights) and run lower drive currents to improve efficiency, practically becomes a little too expensive. Veros are where I've researched most. Commonly peeps run either the C or D type COBs at 1700mA and 2100mA respectively, which will net you 118W and 81W respectively. Go 80 CRI for the increased photon count, sadly we don't have PPF data but can use the lm/W as reference at least. You'll see, the disparity on 80 vs 90 CRI. If you're looking for a veg light, you get the rather sweet bonus of an increased photon count (again ref. lm/W) with the cooler kelvin rating as the COBs have less coating to augment spectrum and therefore more light comes through at the same wattage compared to a warmer rating. https://www.bridgelux.com/sites/default/files/resource_media/DS93%20Vero%2029%20Array%20Data%20Sheet%20Rev%20A%2020160622.pdf JustinHemp420[/member] can perhaps help us out and weigh in on more data, or practical use of COB vs QB as he's running both.

Hehehe, frost witch fo sho. THE SMELLS Yum, yum, yum. The room tends to have a tennis ball container type smell (white widowy) with musky flavour to it (subjective cat piss?) driven by the C+2. Accidentally brushing up against the bud: Sour citrus smell whole way DWC has orgasmic berry notes with an increasing garlicy undertone after calyx swell Coco has fuel smell making the sour more pungent, not quite sour D Synthetics; DWC and coco, I run some supplements on water only days and run bottled microbes in both DWC and coco, so it's not entirely sterile/chem. Without any shadow of doubt though, won't hold a candle to organics and our profiles are probs different too. Some deets on the grow: All going well, started flush on both C+2, DWC a couple days earlier, oddly enough, even though coco girl looked way way ahead the whole way through she decided to start throwing out more new pistils and continue fattening up - would never have predicted this, given how many red/brown pistils coco girl had, from well early on - while the DWC girl started and finished her calyx swell. DWC not as fat, lots of sugar leaf, but a hedge with tops and lower budsites errywhere and so so frosty in comparison, so jury is still out given just about every metric between the platns is different from pheno to medium, to strip, etc. Fine with this as trained her extensively to try get high yield with the other two coco girls pushing for 4-6 nice top buds. The beautiful branching and budsites filling just about the whole branch worked against me with the extensive training and I'd defo like to run again and leverage it now that I have a better idea what to expect from the strain/pheno. Few random pics from a few days ago, one just looking at the DWC calyx swell (interestingly showing similar "good" foxtailing as one sees on GML's crops), another showing plebeian plant support over canopy. One sleeping beast Strawberry Am. fattening up like mad in the corner, smaller C+2 in coco filling space.

QBs or trusted COBs would likely do you better. If we can trust the spec sheet (and my math), it equates to 48 lm/W on this COB. As a comparison Veros at common drive currents for e.g. hit around the 150-160 lm/W. Meaning you'd need 150W to match, or two D type COBs at common drive currents.

Loool that heatsink

Yep yep, but peat not coir, right?
-
You can still soak, I like to, but no longer than 24hrs IMO or you may drown them. If you've been soaking for 3 days it may have been killing off some beans before they had the chance to hit your medium and reducing germ. rates. Yep jiffys are fine for coco, I like to snip off the wrapper before planting to avoid restricting the roots, being careful not to damage them in the process. But as always, man, whatever is working for you stick to it and polish it!

Justin's Journey to the promised land - Take 2
narnia replied to Justin Hemp's topic in Grow Diaries
Sweeeeet quick turnaround Keen to see how this run does with the higher light levels all the way through flower. When did you add in the QB and red supp. last run? Also have a strawb. Am. @ day 50, which one is she in the pic? -
(Poll) Trim - What do you do with your trim

Nice one Justin Fresh frozen trim? What did you use for the screen material? kitchen towel, coffee filter, straining cloth?
