OneBudda

2028April.thumb.JPG.5338404727d344404a203ee0836063f1.JPG

This little girl was our closed/non-oxygenated/still water hydroponic experiment. Friends of mine have successfully grown lettuce using this method before, I was curious as to what would happen to a cannabis plant. My main concern with this method was root rot.

Materials used:

  • 1x aQuelle 5L bottle
  • 1x twig/skewer
  • 1m of washing line rope

Substrate and Nutrients used:

  • Coco buffered with CalMag and mixed with perlite, 80:20 coco:perlite.
  • Volcanic Rock Dusk(Basalt), mixed into the coco, perlite mixture.
  • Seagro, organic plant food

Method followed:

The 5L bottle is cut at about a 1/3 to half way down from the top. The top half is then turned upside down, the lip of the bottle(where it was cut) is manipulated by making cuts, bending and heating to create a "seal" so that the top half(the pot) sits nicely in the bottom half(the reservoir) without touching the bottom. and the twig/skewer is now cut so that you can slide it down to just above the bottle neck, the skewer should not fit through the mouth of the bottle as the function of the skewer is to hold the rope in place so the rope can act as a wicking system. The rope is now cut into smaller pieces, please make sure the pieces are long enough to reach the water. The rope is fed through the mouth of the bottle, around the skewer and back through the mouth. Next the soil mixture is added and seed placed in a 1 cm deep whole, covered and watered. The reservoir is then filled to where the water is touching the mouth of the bottle. The nutrients are mixed to supplier recommendation and added when needed and only after the first month of growth.

Growing OneBudda

When we decided to germinate the seeds we weren't looking to put in huge amounts of effort, so what we did was place 5 bag seeds into 1 pot. Out of the 5 seeds only 3 popped successfully. During the seedling stage the 3 plants no nutrients were added to the reservoir, and it was noted that one of the plants grew substantially taller than the other 2. During the vegetative stage and the first few weeks of flower nutrients were added periodically to the reservoir. When they started to flower the taller one turned out to be male and was culled, the smaller female was then removed to reduce competition. Around the 3 to 4 week mark of flower, none of the lower budsites had develop, so the fan leaves below where the buds should've been were removed as well.  During the flowering stage the weight of the bud compared to the stem thickness meant that we had to support the stem with a splint. No LST or HST methods were used on this grow.

The seeds were germinated late November 2018 and started to flower mid January  2019, it was harvested on 17/04/19. It was then hung in a drying box for 6 days(23/04/19) and then placed into a glass jar with a 8gram, 62% boveda sachet. A dry trim was performed before placing the bud into the jar. When harvested it weighed 8.2g with leaves and stem on, after the dry its new weight was 1.8g and after the trim a final weight of 1.0 gram was produced.0002April.thumb.JPG.ddbdd61cc8009382685fe5c2b17c3ad4.JPG

The plant had a citrus-like aroma during flowering and once harvested and dried, it still has its citrus-like smell with now a slight undertone of more cheesier dank. I will attach a smoke review soon, it is still curing and shall be smoked with a friend to commemorate his stay here.
