So curiosity bit me and VERY fascinated by these plants when flowering and thought I'd give it a very cheap go! Bare in mind I'm not a pro or as well prepared as most guys here so here goes...

 

 

Bought some cheap potting soil, compost, vermiculite and Nitrosol and started germination process

 

 

 

Mixed the compost 40% Soil 40% and vermiculite 20%

 

 

Put germinated seeds in 1kg Stork butter tubs

They get sunlight when available during the day and will go under lights in a little makeshift growbox until strong enough to transplant to bigger 10L pts. progress up to now is going ok and I don't know what strand they are as I got them and was simply told its outdoor

 

These looks like two different strands as 2 more leggy ones was germinated a week later but has longer stems than the others...

 

The smaller ones sprouted 22 May so 7 days ol

Get rid of those bark chips, they're going to cause you a lot of pain. I really don't want to be the one to tell you this, but planting into that compost is going be extremely hot for the seedling, you may find that it could potentially die.

I thought the same thing, but those seedlings look surprisingly healthy.

Thanks for the tip. I'm getting some other soil this at a nursery in Ottery which is already mixed with "everything Cannibus needs" so will transplant this weekend

Yeah they do, well I hope they stay that way. @Nikkel DO not feed any nitrosol at all for a few weeks.

Wait until the plant shows you need nutrients, that soil is packed with slow release fert, the plant has a few weeks worth of nutrients. So I'd wait until things present themselves.

No idea... two seeds I got from my brother in law's friend who's got a wendy house with lights setup in his yard...the first sprouts

 

The other two leggy young ones I got from a neighbour who said it was "outdoor"

Weather's been cloudy in Cape Town today and they've been under lights in my makeshift little grow box for 12 hours straight and to my eyes looks like they doing ok

Slight discoloration of the bottom 2 leaves on one plant something to worry about?

They've been under lights since 8 this morning as it crappy weather in Cape Town.

Last watered yesterday morning and bucket weight doesn't feel too light to water them just yet....

Can the gurus offer some advice on progress...?

Replaced the previous soil with new soil which seems to have way less bark chips in it... The nursery said this is a mix they learned from the Rastas and it has everything needed in the mix.

I might have damaged the roots on 2 of the plant whilst changing soil so hope effects won't be too dire.

Stop listening to those nyaope smokers, coco/perlite or organic matters soil. However I would not transplant it again you'll most likely kill it. Just leave the plant and see what happens for the next few days, don't over water, don't under water, don't fertilize. Just leave.

Where to start...? Left them out in the sun as I normally do when there is some...got on with some other chores....aaaand the fukn neighbors cat got hold of them and tipped over all 4 pots! FFS!

Lost one seedling a days later the other looks a bit sketchy and 2 of them looks like its on recovery path and starting to veg

The seedlings should bounce back fine, I would be careful of over watering with that medium, a technique i like is to simply feel the weight of the pot after you watered, compared to when it is a bit more dried out.

When you transplant them into bigger pots at a later stage you could consider adding some perlite (if its available) into the mix, you can add anything from 30% to 50% perlite and be ok. This will make your mix a lot more aerated, will dry out quicker and plants roots will grow a lot faster.

I also notice quite a bit of bark in your soil, while it is not the worst thing it the soil, it does require Nitrogen to break down, plants could get a bit short of N as they grow. After it breaks down it will start to release the N back into the soil.

Does wood mulch deplete the soil of nitrogen? ... A: The nitrogen is not actuallydepleted, it's temporarily tied up. This can happen when organic materials low innitrogen, such as shredded wood chips or pine bark, are incorporated into the soil. - source nola.com/homegarden/2014/03/does_wood_mulch_deplete_the_so.html

The previous soil had way much more bark in it as you can see in my opening posts... this medium has way less...the bark pieces tend to stick out a bit more as the pot dries out .... Checked on them this morning and the all good! Looks like they very eager to veg!

They bounced back quite nicely in the past 2 days! The tall lanky one...the jury still out there but I'm happy thus far

So decided to snip those dreary looking bottom leaves and they seem to like it alot! Progress is ok seeing how crappy Cape Town weather is at the moment but they look healthy.
