Trailblazer420
All the talking about this project gave me an itch to start. Discovered that I will need quite a bit more alu than expected, so frame which is also the heatsink will probably cost around R550 by the time I'm done. Cost of 100w COBs: R120 x 4Cost of 50 12v COBs: R45 x 6Cost of frame: R550Cost of 12v fans: R40 x 2 Will post pics as I make progress, but light will be finished and hanging over the weekend. Frame size is 600mm x 300mm 12v fans wil be connected for active cooling. As always, input is welcomed. Please share the link where you order. i take it they also got the smaller SMD's, 5050 or 2835 or 3528? These would require drivers however, but you can build such cool boards. Im eager to see that heat sink work, as mentioned, that is were i still need to read up on and get a better understanding of how to calculate the size. Will be following this closely. Trailblazer420
I see they don't have the square chips, but they are running a 2 for 1 special at the moment. I just ordered myself a few round ones as well :) https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F162819481232 Sent from my CLT-L29 using Tapatalk

Trailblazer420
Yeah, you can place more than one order, but their 2 for 1 is apparently not running anymore Sent from my CLT-L29 using Tapatalk

Trailblazer420
So just a little update, ran out of materials, so will need to go shopping just now.... Would look pretty damn good if the right tools were used... So far so good Sent from my CLT-L29 using Tapatalk
Trailblazer420
Progress, should have made it 300 x 760, would have given slightly better coverage, but it would have looked a lot better. Nevertheless, I'll let it dry nicely and start marking the COB locations Sent from my CLT-L29 using Tapatalk
Trailblazer420
Here we go, cobs in place, but still needs to be mounted. Had to dismantle my first prototype, using the COBs on this newly made cooler.Wattage upped to 750w with the addition of 220v 50w cob.Breakdown as folkows:4 x 100w 220v5 x 50w 12v2 x 50w 220vIve left enough space between the back fins to add more if needed, but hopefully the current fins will be enough. That's it for the morning, will probably finish it off this evening. nakes
@Trailblazer420 what temps are you getting in you grow area with those lights? And what size is you grow space. I've noticed with led light I have to use so something extra to get the temps up.
Trailblazer420
My Temps in 1.5x1.5 running 10 x 100w COBs is around 24 deg average. That said, this is the single biggest unit I've built to Date, will hopefully get it into my 1200 x 700 veg tent tonight. Still busy with finishing touches.. Trailblazer420
Extremely happy with the outcome. Total cost was perhaps closer to R1100 than the original estimate, but size is perfect for my 1200 x 700 veg tent. Frame Temps relatively low, running 4 x fans (2 x 12v & 2 x 220v).Definately not my last build... @Totemic, I'll let your Chocolopes be have the final say on light quality :) Sent from my CLT-L29 using Tapatalk
