Daggafontein Genetics Outdoor Grow

Just got my seeds in the ground today.  I've done a lot of outdoors growing in the past, but usually used Nirvana seed from Holland.  And always had to keep it low key because, you know, cops.  So I'm happy to be able to be less cautious and to shop local.

I looked at all the SA seed merchants and went with Daggafontein because they seem to be legit and doing it with love.  And I DO like a decent percentage of Sativa in the mix.

I bought Candy IV, Diesoline, and they threw in a pack of Gardeners Delight (randomly outside pollinated) which could be interesting.  It cost about 1K which I paid in bitcoin 'cos I has a few lying around.

It's also great to have weed-friendly soil at my local Starke Ayres.  I mixed approx 50% Red Tractor Potting Soil, 20%  Compost from my own heap (heavy on the kitchen waste), 20% Orgasoilux Elemental Blend (which looks like it really has everything that a fine upstanding young dagga plant needs), and 10% pearlite.

I've decided to not piss about with germinating in water and starting in small pots.  I just prepped decent sized pots and chucked in the seeds.  4 per pot because DG seeds are not feminized and I expect to have to take out at least half of them.  Non-feminized seeds are new for me, but I have always felt that feminized seeds have been messed with in a way that could lead to a confused plant, so instead it will have to be Androcide!  Then some home-made mulch to keep the moisture in. Now for watering and patience.

Hmm, regarding the way you have planted your seeds, I'd be concerned about firstly where the stem of the plant is inside the pot and secondly when the plants grow their roots are going to intertwine with one another - if you have 2 good females and want to split them, it's not going to be easy and chances are you will end up stunting them a bit when doing so.

Good luck though! Looking good so far 🙂

So 20 days in.  Of the 4 seeds, 3 each of Diesoline & Candy IV made it up.  Only 1 of the Gardeners Delight surprisingly.  But DG actually supplied 12 of each so  I germinated 2 more in cotton wool.

Things are looking good.  I think I will take @PsyCLown  advice and separate them out soon before the roots get too enmeshed.

So the transplant seems to have gone well. Here are the 2 separated Candy4.    Also a Diesoline that looks a bit odd

. And one plant with some friends.   Did a bit of early topping too.

Things are coming along nicely.  It's been very wet and rainy in Cape Town recently, not a lot of sun.  But the water tanks are full and ready for a hot Summer I think.

Firstly the odd Diesoline:  Definitely petite compared to the others.

The Candy is looking nice and bushy.

The other Diesoline is a bit yellow, but still doing well.

The Whole happy family. Candy on the left, Diesoline in the middle and Gardeners Delight on the right.

Shouldn't be long before gender reveal time!

Looking good :-rolled

The odd leaves on the Diesoline could be those OG traits showing up, sometimes the "fuel" genes are a bit weirdish looking in the leaves, then that pretty bud and that gas aroma comes through in flowering!

Had a BigKush from Dinafem that leaned to the OG side, very similar weirdish leaves to your the Diesoline. :-thumbsup

Happy growing @Dojee Dave !

Well I may be wrong, but so far all the plants are looking kinda female.  Though the odds of that are low.  But it leaves me with more plants than I was planning on raising.  So I've been distributing them about the place; 2 in a nice sunny spot (the OG kush/Diesoline and one Candy with the same delicate sativa element, my favourites), one Candy in a less sunny spot - it's shooting up looking for light, and a Diesoline in a very sunny spot in a ceramic pot (seems happy).  I dropped off a Gardeners Delight with my mother-in-law this morning. She is a gardener of note, but has never has anything to do with weed before.  I can't wait to post pics of the mega-bush she is sure to grow in the retirement village garden.

Haha, this is one of the downsides of regular seeds.

I had the same issues with my previous grow when I was growing reg seeds. Ended up with more females than I could flower.

Things are quite far along now and results are sadly disappointing.   I weeded a few males out and a couple went hermy which was fine because I had to many to deal with.

One Diesoline stayed potted in my sheltered yard with full sun.  Weekly Seagrow and Firejuice for the last month or so.  Small buds formed but she seems to be maturing early with brown pistils on the tiny buds:

I planted other plants out in my front yard.  Also full sun, but blasted by the wind and needed propping up with bamboo - some of which actually snapped due to the intensity of the Cape Doctor.  But again tiny buds that are already showing signs of brown pistils.  😞

One win is the plant that I gave to my mother-in-law is flourishing in the old age home garden and all the residents are showing a keen interest is how it is developing.  At least they are not too worried about the size of the buds.

Update as we get towards harvest,  The Diesoline with the OG Kush pheno has stayed small and delicate with very fine leaves.  It took a hammering from the wind, but has pushed out neat little buds that I am looking forward to sampling.  I think it may be something special.

The best Candy of the bunch has done very well to resist pests and the wind and her buds have come in very nicely.

The bonus "Growers Delights" I planted out at friends and family.  They are fun, but not really producing well and just goes to show the importance of controlled pollination to keep strong genetics.

I will report back on smokability in a few weeks once drying and curing is done!
