So I asked myself the question, " what do I do with the extra plants I have??? "

Answer is, go buy some perlite and coco coir. It quite cheap if you buy in bulk and do your homework. There is a company called INFIGRO that is based in Blackheath. They're prices is good.

Perlite - R220 for 100L

Vermiculite - R145 for 100L

Coco Coir R40 for 4.5kg block

But back to the story at hand. I got myself perlite and coir as I said, then headed over to the hydro store and picked up some Calmag, a cheap pH meter (the bottle one, works OK to test pH) and headed home. Buffered the coco, flushed it and mixed up a 50 50 mix of coco perlite.

Reason for going with this mix is that it's cheap, can be re-used, flushes much better and doesn't bring those fucking fungus gnats we all came to love...

cough cough Freedom Farm cough cough........

I wanted to use 4 x 15L pots but sadly only had 2 spare. So I used 2 x 25L and 2 x 15L pots next run I'll do all 4 with the same size. And with that I also decided to do a little test. Main reason for getting the pH meter cause I have a bag of mineral feed used for flowering orchids. I used it once before and I worked well so I thought I'd do a test.

2 of them will be fed with Bio Bloom and the other 2 will get a mineral feed. I know there is better mineral feed out there but this is what I have on hand now and if I like the results then I'll fork out money and get better nutrition for the ladies.

The Bio-Bloom plants:

Shiskaberry

Chocolope

IMG_20191117_195545.thumb.jpg.a9c651441edad110ac6dfe6035810c1c.jpg

The 2 mineral plants:

Bruce Banner #3 x Bruce Banner #3

IMG_20191117_195538.thumb.jpg.187714bab5eca8f7365885719025910e.jpg

Bruce Banner x Girl Scout Cookies

IMG_20191117_195550.thumb.jpg.19e4387293bfdae3ea73c5a6a4a6f5b4.jpg

The flowering light cycle will be the gas lantern cycle which means the light cycle is as follows:

8 hours on / 16 hours off.

I used it on my previous grow but with that one I dropped the light cycle with 30 min every 2 weeks until I came to 8 hours on and 16 hours off. This time I am starting the cycle with the cycle at  8 /16. This method does not allow that all to well known stretch and is perfect for vegging a bit longer or for heavy Sativa dominant plants. The most stecth I noticed was 2 cm...

The 1st time I heard/read about this method was on Grow Weed Easy and ever since then I always wanted to try it.

Reson for the extra plants is because I love to plant seeds. I over planted and guessed I would have more males...guess I was wrong. So now I have them andagain it something I wanted to do for quite a while - side by side grow, organic vs mineral..... I know the Bruce Banner is not  well trained but it was kinda last minute decision.

That's about it for ins and outs on what's going down in the tent. Come on by, hang out and talk shit. Maybe even share some tips on how I fuck up 🤣

The leafs on the Bruce Banner and BB x GSC leafs started drooping and cupping. Of course I freaked but after an hour of lights on they recovered. There is no air movement during lights off. Is this a problem???

Temps during lights on is a constant 25C.. Will need to measure temps with lights out. When lights come on I can smell a deep musky plant smell. Typical build up of gasses.

I would definitely leave fans and ventilation on 24/7. Monitor that plant that has the cupping effect on the leaves. It's not the normal lights off droop. Might be 1st signs that something is going wrong in the medium. Either unbuffered coco and/or to the ph is off. Check ph and ec of run off so you can get some peace of mind. Atleast you in coco so it will be easy to correct.

Wow your good man. LoL

It's a coco /perlite mix and it was pointed out to me about the pH and ec. That's the stuff that have never worried about before. This mineral feeding isn't as straight forward as organic nutes. The coco was buffered but the pH might be the culprit.

I could easily flush and go over to the bio bloom like the other 2 but what the point of taking on a new challenge and giving up??? I am gonna get these 2 plants sorted out again soon.

Thanx for your input

The adjustment in pH should be fairly easy to resolve though...

Measure your runoff pH, and make a mix with a higher or lower pH, and stick to that for a few feeds and you should be fine.

I would leave a flush for a more serious problem if one does crop up. The new growth with the leaves with 3 blades... Indicates a weird light schedule, even new New growth in veg has the 5 spokes... Just something to consider

Has this plant been getting a strict veg light cycle or not really? Perhaps a bit indoors and a bit outdoors?

I agree with @Mambawana on a pH issue, especially if you have been following feeding schedule provided by the nute manufacturer.

Not sure about your statement about someone being good and laughing but for now I'll assume it isn't sarcasm. I'm no pro and I'm new to this forum so I don't know who needs advice and who doesn't. If you don't want my input I'll gladly refrain. Okay moving on...

Don't stress about synthetics. It's much easier than organics. It's a lot quicker to fix issues and ofcourse a lot quicker to create issues. The most important part of synthetics is mixing your nutes in the correct order or else you going to have certain elements falling out of solution which leads to interrupting the buffering and ph issues.

Unfortunately you not going to get rid of them fungus gnats with that 50/50 mix. Once those plants are established you going to have to feed them at a  minimum once a day which isn't going to give you enough top soil dry out time to stop the gnats hence why I moved to using coco with no perlite. And then you have plastic pots with holes on the bottom which gnats love. You want to get rid of gnats... at next transplant either line the bottom inside of the pot with weed guard fabric or use a fabric pot and put a layer of silica pool filter sand on top. No more gnats

Mmmm not sure why I replied like that but I guess emotions can't be seen through text. I meant it in a good way meaning you were spot on with the medium of choice and the issue I have at hand. Advice from anyone is always greatly appreciated no matter who.

Sorry if I came across rude.

Puff puff pass...

It's cool brother. We are all only as good as the mistakes we've learnt from. And if you see someone go through something you have already its hard not to say anything.

I apologise if I was harsh, I saw that message just after I found a hermie in my garden day 26 flower and those pollen sacks looked a few days from causing kak so you can imagine...

I can understand man. Nothing like a hermie to fuck up your energy spent careing for it. And the lost bud.... Sho glad you found it when you did

Shot dude. I ended up finding another 1. So now I have 2 gaps in my canopy. Both these plants were breed by phenofinder genetics. Both had beautiful bud set but we're through and through hermaphrodites. Did a major defoliation  At day 20, 6 days later then usual due to commitments. Guess that's what it took for these plants to show their true nature.

But it's water under the bridge, those 2 and their respective clones have all been culled.

Stressing your plant with your lights sounds outrageous 😄

@Mambawana tell us what you know about breeders doing it? Is it to produce a hermie and get seeds from the same plant or such?

I haven't done any breeding as yet so I can't say that I've personally done that. It's definitely not for seeds. I watched Kevin Jodrey series of interviews called 'meet the breeders'. (Check it out, it's awesome, you will know what I know about what the breeders have to say). Mean Gene mentioned that they would purposely mess with light cycles to fish out plants that are most susceptible to herming amongst many other stress tactics for pm etc when trying to stabilize a line. Sounds outrageous to you... but we talking about some of the pioneers of cannabis breeding here. And then it was also mentioned that the word stabilizing nowadays has 2 meanings. 1 being it's been stabilized to not herm and the other being the original use of the word where they stabilizing a strain to all grow the same and not have a lot of diversity.

@Mambawana, the ladies are doing better. I adjusted the pH to 5.5 but not sure about the ec yet. I'm waiting on a meter and should be here sometime next week. I am waiting for the lights to turn on so that I can give them all their feeding. The Organic ladies are in for a a nice feeding session tonight.

But all about that a bit later

So today was one of those strange days. I felt a bit irritated and decided to take the pipe, grinder and some bud and drive up to the mountain. It quite close to where I live and it's relaxing.

IMG_20191124_141753.thumb.jpg.d2b4b883f96a08f24cf096df07e6d017.jpg

So while driving and finding spots to place the cooked rice to make some BIM a bit later on the year I found these 2 decaying pine trees....

IMG_20191124_143630.thumb.jpg.4ec23118d84d0c756817e34fe16e1f03.jpg

I scratched a bit and when I checked I had a handful of decomposed pine tree. So I decided to take it home and add it to the brew thats currently going.

Before I went home I stopped to pick up some bananas. Read that if you make a tea from it it'll help with the budding phase adding extra Potassium. Whether it helps or not, I'm not sure but fuck it... I added it and gave it to the ladies.

Went up to the mountain and stopped by that spot I was at last week and got myself some decomposing pine and surrounding soil. I got a few roots from some plant and added that too.

IMG_20191201_100653.thumb.jpg.a5dca5918b343b2fb717d5eb85679bd5.jpgIMG_20191201_101019.thumb.jpg.c669441b45c0d39dec119143fc9c32f6.jpg

Got home and bubbled out water and while that was happening I added some of the pine tree to a bucket with some of the surrounding soil and roots. I also added roots from a male plant that was fed Guano and Seagro. To that dry mix I added 50ml Bio-Bloom, 2 Tbsp Molasses, Rock Phosphate, Mycoroot and Epsom Salt.

I added the bubbled out water to mix and stirred it up a bit to mix everything together and then added the airstones. I'll let that all bubble until tonight when I give the ladies the tea....

      Hello growers
I would love to have an opinion on this topic. Let me update you on what I have been working with. I have a one plant indoor grow inside a 80cm x 80cm grow tent. I use a 40l fabric pot with both Orgasoilux and Freedom farms soil (green bag). The bottom half I use Orgasoilux(20l) and the top half I use Freedom farms soil(20l). Throughout veg all I give the plant is Biodyne Environoc 401 (microbes), Molasses and water. This results in an extremely healthy plant.
Once I flip to flower I start using organic bottled nutrients. In the past I have used Biobizz Bio-bloom, and more recently I have used Dirty hands inc - Bio-Phos (Jamie's brand). I give 3ml Bio-Phos once a week early flower and up it to 5ml every week mid to late flower. Plus a molasses feeding every 2 weeks and stopped using Biodyne microbes 1 week into flower.
I was thinking about completely ditching bottled nutrients and going the topdressing route for flower. I was thinking of maybe topdressing a week before the flip with Jamie's elemental blend. I am just worried if it will provide enough for the plants through to harvest. I was also thinking of maybe using my own topdressing blend of Dry kelp, Gypsum, Malted Barley and Worm Castings. Would love an opinion on switching to topdressing for flower and if the elemental blend should be more than enough to take me to harvest. If you think I should just stick to bottled nutrients for flower let me know. I am going to include photo's of my 2 previous grows using the method I have stated above. Just trying to get the best quality flower possible :)
      Some thoughts of mine...…
      Topdressing vs Liquid Nutrients?
Biobizz Bio-Bloom vs Dirty Hands Inc Bio-Phos?
One topdressing enough 1 week before flip?
Elemental Blend or my own flowering mix?

      Hey guys!
I am really looking forward to this grow. Objective is for personal breeding purposes.
This will be my first time experimenting with breeding cannabis, any help is appreciated 🙂

Currently growing Laughing Buddha (Barney's Farm) and Charlotte's Angel (Dutch Passion). Plan is to cross Novakane with these strains, as well as breeding Novakane F2 seeds.
Novakane F1 seeds were sourced from @Totemic. On a side note, just a thank you from my part. The beans I ordered arrived swiftly, with a lot of freebies! The quality of these seeds are unmatched.

Started germinating today, soaked 5 regular seeds for 30min in Explogrow. Afterwards transferring them to a 1:100 solution of Explogrow and pH 6 water for 12 hours.
Am a fan of the paper-towel method, and have had great success placing said paper-towel inside a plastic bag on top of my router. Will do this next...

      Grow setup:
      240W LM301b + Epistar 660nm Kingbrite Quantum Board
      Freedom Farms Premium Soil
      T.A. Pro Organic Nutrients
      1.2 x 0.7m Grow Tent

      Hey all
Finally got my beans in the ground. My goals are are potency, flavour and yield and my setup is as follows:
Outdoor on my balcony Strains - all Dutch Passion and bought from Trophy Seeds. 2 x Auto Blueberry 1 x Auto Orange 1 x Auto Daquiri Lime Medium: Freedom Farms Premier Organic Mix - the green bag Pots - 7 gallon Grow Guru fabric pots Nutes: Full Biobizz Line All seeds were germinated using the cotton pad method. One of the Blueberries took some time to show a root and it's currently in it's pot. I'm still waiting for it to break soil. I'm just misting with water and I've added about 2,5 ml of coconut water to the mix.
      Day One - 27 September 2020
      Cheers

GERMINATION: My first three seeds went into baggies on the evening of 9th September. The first popped on 11th and the remaining two popped on 12th. They are in cups in Western Cape coastal, mountain soil, and the first has popped it's cotyledons. The remaining two look set to pop cotyledons later today or tomorrow.
The weather is now suitably above 13 degrees most of the time, so the sprouts will be able to metabolize. Spring has sprung and new leaves are starting to show all around the garden.
Of our local landraces, I favour the Transkei. It has a beautiful clean high, creative, sociable and euphorically energizing. I am hoping to do a comparative grow with a different batch of Transkei origin seed and if I get lucky I might get a male out of this grow. I have tried harvesting pollen and it is not easy for me, but I hope to get it right this season if I am lucky enough.
I am going to grow in the dark loamy soil in the garden, which is on a mountainside overlooking a bay. I am strongly considering Hugelkulture with some homemade amendments. I will take some Myccorhizae samples from the fynbos and inoculate my soil before transplanting. Last season I developed my own basic kasteel combo bug control juice, which I will treat the leaves with as a preventative measure. I will feed with Lactobacillus, kelp, castings and chicken poop. I will also mix in some bokashi bran when building my pile. If I can get hold of a small quantity of alfalfa pellets I will mash some of those in too.
