Not sure if it's just the pics but looks like you need to do another defol. Quite a Bush you got going there.

No matter how aggressive you defoliate a week to 2 later it's almost like you can't notice you defoliated.

Killer budstructure on the right hand side plant, also a nice stretch, if flavor and high is on point she's a keeper!

Just flippin love that structure :-rolled

The genetics between the two are so different 😵 I would definitely redo the right plant again if I had to choose between the two for this manifold technique. The left barely stretched and grows really really tight. I'd probably recommended the left plant as a Sea of Green technique, but still confident on getting good yield and bud from both from this harvest😁

Lekker man, ja the grow is looking fire dude 🙂

Is the righthand side plant the Granddaddy Purple or the Gorilla?

I like it!

I still feel you should get a larger DWC res for next round... It really takes the edge off.

Something like a 30l - 40l in that space and you will notice the difference.

Currently I set my res up with hortimix up to 1 EC... Literally leave it alone for 2 months except add water that's been displaced... No extra nutes, no pH checks... And the plants explode like volcanoes.... Damn the efficiency of DWC!!!

Agreed. The last grow I did I only had puny 20L DWCs and they were not enough! Had to basically refill every day.

Now I have these 30L DWCs and they are so much better. Only need to refill every week now in flower.

Noice... I would even consider consolidation to even larger bucket... Ones where the volume of water in use is lager than currently...

Do you measure your water temp separately to your ambient?

Expand

I'll get a whole pool for you @CreX 😜

Can't say I pay much attention to water temp unless it's warmer than 21C

Getting some nice colour and aroma from the GDP, little bit of frosty bits too 🕸️

Royal Gorilla looking to flower for much longer still. Not much more different since the last update.

The yellowing is from sending too much juice to the QB. I now know what the maximum perimeters are so hopefully won't mildly burn anymore plants 😷

Nice man, how many weeks into flower are they now?

You going to do more defol or not?

Expand

6 weeks now into flower.

Nah I don't think I will defol, my humidity is now sitting under 40% thanks to the recent change in weather and it's getting pretty chilly for the ladies. I rate I am liking how they are both developing so I am leaning towards less-is-more. I am also seeing this grow what it looks like when defol is not as heavy-handed.

Small update. GDP is ripening up nicely. Starting to see mostly cloudy trichomes, busy waiting for that amber. I'd like to see half amber trichomes before cutting.

Royal Gorilla is still a ways away, plenty of fattening up to do and trichomes are still clear and small. I think I won't ripen the Royal Gorilla as much as the GDP, maybe as soon as I spot a single amber I will cut.

You said you wanna chop at first sight of amber?

What ha using to get up close and personal? The DSLR?

Expand

Yee. Although, the GDP is now a week over the breeder's stated flowering time, so I am considering chopping this weekend. I can't see the buds filling up much more than they are right now.

Took another pic today of the trichomes. I can spot a few speckles of amber.

I've been struggling to find a local and RELATIVE resource for another growing technique that's been around before my forefathers and theirs. I understand the hempy growing style to be passive hydroponics. Basically growing in a single unit containing soilless media with a raised overflow hole. Think of a single DWC bucket,  but now NO motor NO air pump NO irrigation other than a hole a few centimeters from the base. (look further https://www.growweedeasy.com/what-is-a-hempy-bucket-and-is-it-good-for-growing-weed). You never run the risk of overwatering your plant because of this carefully placed overflow; every watering/feed is replenishing the old water in the res GRANTED you measure how much liquid it has taken to fill up in the first place. The internet suggests you fill the entire bucket with some hydro media and feed/water until you get atleast 30% overflow, but filling up one bucket top to bottom classifies to me as those Dutch/Bato buckets. However my adaptation still follows the principle of hempy style, but utilizes a second bucket acting as a larger (media-free) res. Bare in mind the top attached bucket has to have drainage/holes to allow water to flood the bottom few CM.
Now here's the catch! My adaptation only works if the bottom res bucket's overflow/drainage hole is HIGHER than the base of the top pot holding media and root mass. For a more detailed (and pedantic) look, feel free to check out my live grow report where I employ a modified hempy bucket for a Fast Buds Gelato auto: https://www.420sa.co.za/grow-reports/outdoor-grow-reports/gelato-auto-perlite-hempy-bucket-r33/
In this post I will be focusing on two gifted Apple Cups (AC), where I'll be doing a head-to-head in organic soil (FF Classic) vs this hempy bucket story. Please note while in a mini greenhouse these plants are growing outdoors and are only kept in the plastic structure during rain, torrential wind or to raise the humidity when my cheap hygrometer lies and says it's under 35%

AC#1 Hempy is first image in green pot, AC#2 organic in grey pot (perlite layer added and initially too much)

      Stay tuned!
