ajcapetown
Hey Guys I've had this grow going for a couple months now and have been putting pics together etc but decided I would only start logging it when flowering starts. I have another group of girls flowering as many of you have seen by another grow log I'm doing. I had planned to only flower this bunch after the other lot finished but due to their size I had to start. I'm going to do it bit by bit over the next few days, starting from the beginning and getting to where I am now. STRAINS: Barney's Farm - Critical Kush x2 Greenhouse Seed Co - Super Lemon Haze x 2 Humboldt Seed Organization - Blue Dream x 1 Kaas - Started from clone x1 Training Day - Started from Clone x1 I also had an Exodus Cheese clone taken off a mother I grew from seed but due to my continually disappointing results from it I put her outside and she's currently flowering.. getting watered when I remember. I started the seeds off in cotton pads, nothing fancy.. didn't even use my heating mat for them. Within a couple of days I had tap roots. At that point I made up a mix of potting soil / mushroom compost / perlite. The mushroom compost and potting soil I just bought at the nursery. I grow my vegetables in that mix and it works wonders so though why not try with my cannabis. The plants broke through and grew beautifully. I had them under an LED light in the beginning. The first cotyledons broke through on the 6th of March. By 12 March they were all threw the soil and growing. Here's some pics...
Toby
Thanks for all the updates. Are you going organic with this grow to?
Guest kaiju
:-clap Looking good. As mentioned before. Thanks for all the posts. Looking forward to seeing this thread grow
ajcapetown
Thanks Guys Yes this grow is going completely organic. Here's some more pics of how they grew. On the 29th of March they had outgrown their little pots so I moved them into white 4 litre pots. When I potted up I added some Mycorhizzal fungi into the hole to make contact with the roots. This beneficial fungi then attaches itself to the roots as they grow through. I also sprinkled some worm castings into the holes and they were put into an organic living soil created by Jamie's Garden Shop.
Toby
Nice going Ajcapetown. Organic FTW. Good luck
ajcapetown
Hey Guys I potted up to the 4 litre pots on the 29th of March. Well within 2 weeks they had exploded and I felt it was time to pot up again. This time to 12 litre pots. As always I used mycorrhizal fungi on the roots and worm castings. Jamie's garden shop supplied more soil and off I went. I also put rooibos mulch on the top, an even covering over the surface. This was kind of an experiment I tried but I'm glad I did. It prevents messing when I water and it smells really great! ( I love rooibos tea though ) It also has a bunch of other benefits and it's really cheap. The mycorrhizal fungi actually only has to be applied to roots once as it attaches itself and then grows on the roots but it does no harm so I use it every time I pot up. At this point the I had not given 1 nutrient.. plain water at ph6.2. The living soil was more than enough to keep them healthy and happy! Once they were potted up I moved them into my tent under the blackstar 240 LED. Some more pics..
ajcapetown
21 April, I added HPS metal halide to the mix. I finally got myself an air cooled hood... can't believe I didn't do it earlier! The temperatures in the tent are hovering at 22-23 degrees with the full 600 watts. Can't believe how effective this thing is. I can have it at 30cm from the top of the plants with no problem at all. I've included some pics of how I installed the ballast etc. I mounted a wooden board to the wall and have it all on there. My timer etc is all where I can see it and it's a lot neater in the tent. I'm planning another 600 watt light for this tent which will put me at 1200 watts in total. Maybe a bit overkill but with the air cooled hoods temp is not a problem in any way. For now it's 600 watt metal halide with 240 watt LED. I use an 8 inch extractor and I managed to find a 6 inch reducer so that it fits my hood which is 6 inch. On Intake I have 2 x 4 inch passive intakes which is working fine. Covered the intakes with stockings I stole from my wife haha. Trying to keep dust out. I started giving the plants some bio grow at this point as well.
Green Leaf Organics
Looking good bud. You planning on training them at all?
ajcapetown
Thanks buddy I did start training them yes, shortly after the above pics were taken. In my next post I'll put up the pics of training etc I did with them. Currently sitting in darkness as our power went off at 8.
Green Leaf Organics
You should try starting training a lot earlier. General rule of thumb I use is if it has 2 sets of true leaves she can be fimmed and started to be trained. A well trained plant can easily double your yield. ajcapetown
Cool thanks for the info, will definitely do that. I think I was actually over cautious with these because I only had the 5 beans and was terrified they wouldn't perform so I kinda let them go too long before training. I've got some clones of them on the go at the moment so I'll start training those very early. Back to the progress, in my last post I had moved them into 12 litre pots. Within 3 weeks they had outgrown these pots and it was time to move them into their final pots. I chose 25 litre black buckets which they will now finish in. I started topping and super cropping quite harshly. When I topped I actually took the whole top section off of them, reason being they were just growing too fast and I needed to slow them down drastically. I also used some of my own super soil I created by making the bottom layer my soil. It has been cooking for 60 days when I used it.
Toby
Once again, looking great Ajcapetown. When are you planning on flipping them?
ajcapetown
Thanks Toby! I flipped them on the 4th of May, will put up some more info shortly.
ajcapetown
Guys here are some pics of the training I did on these girls before I switched to flower. I actually started training fairly late, could have probably started earlier but so far it's been looking ok. As I mentioned before I topped these plants hard! I was stressing about space and really needed to slow their height down. SO I topped them and then I super cropped the top shoots to force the plant to widen out a bit. You can see by the pics where I actually followed the main stem up and literally chopped the top right off. I also tied a few of them by putting stakes on either side of the pots and then actually pulling the plants open. Here's some pics!
Green Leaf Organics
Looking good bud. Take those last bits of stork of were u topped them , make the cut as close as you can to the bottom. Leaving that small piece is a waste of plant energy, the plant is keeping that stork alive for no reason. Same goes for any branch or leaf you take off , the entire piece must come off. Don't be scared about abusing your plants, they can take it. Also try drilling holes in the top of the pot lip and tieing the branches to the side with plant ties (lst) Cheers Reaf
ajcapetown
Thanks Reaf, will nip those last bits off when I get home tonight. Didn't realise they would still try send energy that way. Here's some more pics. On the 4th of May I flipped to 12/12 and changed the bulb from MH to HPS. I included some pics of the Metal Halide still in and then a couple more once the HPS was fitted. I was actually quite surprised by how yellow HPS is when I did side by side shots of the MH and HPS.
ajcapetown
Hi guys It was 14 days in yesterday since the flip to 12/12. So far things are going really really well and I have high hopes for this grow! I'm still feeding at a 50/50 mix of Bio Grow and Bio Bloom. With the change in the weather over the last couple weeks, the rain and cold I'm finding my plants are using way less in terms of water. I'm watering once every 5 - 6 days. Im hoping the worst of the stretching is over, the plants are monsters. The Super Lemon Haze is by far the biggest but that was to be expected due to their sativa dominant genetics. Buds are starting to form nicely. I cannot wait to try this Blue Dream.. there's a huge online buzz about it at the moment and the high it provides. You can see by the support stakes the amount in which they have stretched over the last 14 days.
Guest spootch
Woaaah looking Stella brah gonna be bud festival in there now now !!!!! I also have a blue dream waiting for a space in the flower tent, so very keen to see how she goes.

Guest spootch
Ahoy AJ ! How's the flowering coming on ? How's the stretch on your blue dream ?
ajcapetown
Hi Guys Today is 28 days into flower and so far things are still going extremely well. Very very happy with this grow. If things continue like this I should get some sick buds! TK: the Blue Dream has really been amazing to grow and I am drooling to try it out! She basically doubled in size since flowering started. A bit more stretch than the critical kush but quite a bit less than the super lemon haze. I see flowering time is 9 weeks, I think I may let her go to 10 but will see how she looks. The super lemon haze girls are the biggest at just over 1 meter. I'll let them go a full 10 weeks. I could have started flowering these girls a bit earlier but their height has stopped and I'm fine for space with the lights. Was stressing they would get too big at 1 point. I have added an exodus cheese to the mix (theres a pic of her) I actually put her outside on the 1st of April because I have given up on growing exodus cheese. She started flowering and giving off the most amazing aroma. I had planned to let her finish up outside but with all the rain we have been getting she was literally drowning so last week I put her in the tent to finish. Due to the cold she has gone this amazing purple colour. Her buds are quite small though... not sure if that has anything to do with light intensity. Maybe spending some time in the tent will fatten them up. They are however super sticky and frosty so that's a good thing. At the moment I'd say the critical kush girls have been my favourites and their buds etc are looking the best, growth wise they have also just been incredibly strong. I have been slowly trimming out the bottoms of all of them but I must be honest.. I fucking hate growing in a grow tent. The run off is shit when I try water (which is also a mission) and getting to the plants is shit... it is a major mission for me. So as far as trimming and cleaning up goes I haven't been as vigilant as usual. Going to be making some changes soon which will give me better access to all of them. Still feeding them a combo of bio grow and bio bloom, gonna up the grow a bit soon as I've noticed some yellowing so will pump the nitrogen up for one feed then monitor them. Apart from that not much else to report, will post some more pics in 2 weeks
