Diary Complete Palomino and friends

Hi folks,

I did not intend on updating the dairy again so quickly but I saw some awesome stretch on the main colas on the ladies (GSC - meh...)

Twisted Helix representing the breeder quality and the price you pay per seed with some really fat buds starting to take shape.

The one that's really blowing my mind on the cola stretch is the Tortoni #2. She was germinated last and had quite a lot of catch up to do. But in flower she is shining through. If I had the capacity to play around with breeding I would have liked to work with this Tortoni #2

And a shout out to @Prom for his dedicated commitment  on the BioBizz line. I learnt a lot from his nutrient application process :-respect

You might want to clean the lower parts out a bit on fan leaves.. a few a day doesn't stress. Focus on the ones pointing inside. 3-4 leaves over 4-5 days till you have more light on the lower buds. Other way would be to use plant bends and just bend those leaves down... best option but most work but you can do all in one session, no reason to space it.

(Don't bug the Autos 😁 If you run any, there you need plant bends)

Morning folks.

Currently sitting on day 50 of flower so more or less 3 weeks still left before the chop.

I sat and stared at the plants this morning in the dark and thought I'd share a couple of lights off photos. Tortoni #2 is really impressing me a lot in flower..

The photos are a bit blurry, not sitting with the best phone camera...

Just now, Stinger96 said:

Looking stellar there sir..👌👍🔥 If I may ask. Where did you get the clip on fans from and are they worth it..?

Thank you good sir. I have the RAM and Safe way non-oscillating fans. Both real good quality.

Safeway bought from Clicks and a bit cheaper. Ram bought through Hydroponic.co.za a little bit more expensive.  But on 24/7 and haven't had any issues now on my second grow with them :-thumbsup

I have 6 of the RAM fans,

Needed to remove the oscillating pin selector, to get 4 of them to oscillate properly, and then 5 or probably all 6 of them make a huge squeak on turning and if you are in the room nextdoor, you are going to hear it.

Through the tent and room door.

Other than that, 1 year in, and they are exceptional at moving air, and that is their job anyway.

Morning folks.

Day 53 of flower and I took out the ladies for some inspection and feedingone thing that really stands out for me is the fact that it seems the clones are maturing quicker than the mother plants?

Pride and joy currently in the clone stable is the Palomino. I love the fact that the sugar leaves are cupping with excessive trichome. Just looks beautiful.

Morning folks.

Day 58 of flower and I am not really seeing the buds fattening up as nicely as I would like. Trichome development on most of the ladies looks epic but rather perplexed as to the size of the buds. Might have been the cold as my grow is not temperature controlled. Or it might be the reasons noted below...

This whole growing thing is a never ending learning curve and I got schooled on this grow as well.

3 things I will have to adjust with the next grow.

- defoliate, defoliate, defoliate. Too many bud sites/nodes covered with growth stealing energy from the mains. @Prom thanx for the heads up.

- veg the plants longer to establish distinct mains and allowing for better defoliation. Shout out to @PsyCLown and @ORGANinc. for picking up on that

- soil got too compact due to too many top ups. I think that might have inadvertently limited root growth and expansion.

Well lessons learnt and probably a lot more to learn as we move along. I also think I might have gotten a slight overwatering issue with the Bubblegum, she doesn't drink that much...

Still got 2 odd weeks to go so let's hope for some fat nugs coming to the party...

P.S Garden of Green - GSC what a waste of space...

Don't know what you talking about, Looks great brother! They will get bigger, let them go another 2 weeks, the cold makes things slow.

@John Stonedwell Based on my experience, with the frosty stuff I have grown so far - bud size seems to be something which is affected.

Get tons of frost, but bud size and yield seems to take a bit of a knock unfortunately.

Defoliationg helps, everyone has a different degree to which they are comfortable with. I say on your next grow, try multiple methods on the same strain (or cut) and see how it goes.

Strip the one plant literally bare just before you put it into flower and see how it bounces back and create a lot of extra nodes, leaves and colas during the pre-flower phase and then do another defol after that (around 3 weeks after putting them into flower).

So far, yield does not seem to be affected in a negative way and helps open everything up nicely for better light penetration on the bud as well as better air circulation. Buds which do not get direct light often seem to be lighter in colour and not look as good.

You can take a look at my current grow diary to get an idea of what I do, try it at least once.

Try removing different amounts and see what works best, it may vary between strains as well.

I do defoliate quite a lot heavier than most from what I have noticed, trying different levels on the frosty in house stuff as well to see how they respond.

Looking great though, a bit of burn on the Palamino though on the tips of the leaves. Bubblegum looks to be clawing a little as well.

I like to taper off on the nute strength towards the end of flower as I do not flush and the nutes can build up in the medium over time. So towards the end I start to drop the strength a bit to help avoid the crispy leaves towards the end of flower. I do not stop feeding altogether and I do not drop it drastically, 10% to 30% reduction in strength can make a big difference even.

I will keep that in mind for the next dance. :-thumbsup

Houston... we have a problem :-hairpull

I was chilling with my plants today and something caught my eye on the one Bubblegum clone.

So there is one Bubblegum mother plant and 3 clones currently in the tent. And I am quite certain I saw some nanners on the one clone. The other doesn't seem to have.

I've heard hermie traits can be due to the strain cross not being as stable as it should be or due to stress. Not sure which one is applicable for this issue...

I am a bit worried as to what to do now? 🙁

We are currently sitting on day 59 of flower so should I chop the perceived hermie or what to do?

Some guidance will be appreciated here...

Some pics of the possible problem..

Thanx for the heads up. Just funny that she was on the same nute schedule as the other 2 clones and mother plant.. and they dont show any signs... My BioGrow nutes were limited to between 2 to 3.5 ml per liter. 😬

There is absolutely no fade on the lower leaves.

The air flow, can also cause a plant to do that, where was that plant in comparison?

      'Olla Bromigos!
Getting started a little later this year than last, rain around this time in my neck of the woods played havoc with seedlings last year.
For this Season I am firmly in the Local is Lekker corner, and will be running a bunch of @Totemicand some @Bay Seeds sourced a while ago from the Legends at @Cannabist. Thank you all for the great deal and freebies! Very grateful and super keen 🙃

So here we go! Up first 2 each of:
      Totemic - Green Gelato. Reg
      Totemic -Strawberry Deluxe. Fem
Totemic - Strawberry Sugar Cookies. Fem
Bay Seeds - AK Royal x Lemon Jedi X Choc Gelato. Reg
Totemic - Gelato x Cherry CBD. Reg

All seeds soaking since 4PMish, dechlorinated water with a spritz of Biodyne and BioBizz Root juice.
Some king sized seeds, some so big they got stuck in the container and needed prying out.

Very keen to get started! Some will go straight into pots from here, others via ziploc and paper towel route. Don't have enough side plates to separate 5 diff strains in paper towels etc. Will give the Fems the special treatment and let the Regs go au natural.

So I was browsing the Internet last season, more or less end of season, and in the process startes browsing local seedbanks to see whats out there. So I noticed a "free seeds" section and of course I checked it out and saw Chocolate Gelato on test a testers needed base, i guess and did a fake checkout to see what I needed to buy to get this deal. I did not complete the checkout cause I just figured lets leave it cause I don't have cash now anyhow.
Couple days later I received an envelope with feminized seeds, some rolling papers ans a sticker. All they asked was to do a test grow here. So here we go....
      @Cannabist, @Totemic
I received 5 x seeds and planted 3 for this season. 2 popped and is alive. The 3rd one did not make it sue to human error.

I'm not sure what the Sativa/Indica ratio is and the genetics either and I am hoping for Totemic for that answer and maybe a few tips..
They have been watered and fed with Humigro yesterday morning and they are responding well to it. Soon they should go to their bigger pots homes in the garden..

So here we go.. not sure if I'm early to the party but what the hel..

Will have some space in the tent soon and by the time these girls get flipped they should have the tent to themselves...
      Grow nitty gritties:
      1x1 Mammoth Pro 100 Tent
      600w HID
Extractor fan and two fans for air flow..
      The plan:
Will be starting the seeds in a tin with paper towel on top of the decoder. From there straight into Freedom Farms Seed Starter. I Have not used it before and is quite excited to try it out..

After the girls have been Veged to reach the required size, they'll be potted up into 5L pots.  Here is where I wil be testing a different soil mix for each..
#1 Will be grown in Freedom Farm Premium Classic & Diotomatious Earth..
#2 Will be grown in FF PC, DE and Super Frass
3# Will be grown in FF PC & DE Mixed with worm castings, Organic Mulch potting soil and extra Perlite..
None of the plants will get anything else. Normal declorinated tap water only. This grow off will determine my soil mix for further grows. It also serves as a bit of a test on the Super Frass and FF Seed Starter..

With these mixes I am sure to have 3 way different results..
To all the contestants, good luck stay safe and above all enjoy.. This is going to be epic..

Wel with the new home for the Tortoni girls I desided to take up some more space with a few of Totemic's ginetics and some seed gifted to me by @SkunkPharm.. Germinated some Grape Gorilla x2, Chockolate Gelato x3, Double Sunsetx3, Dream Queen Reg x10 and DQ x Slurri reg.. x6
The girls showed face yesterday in some Jiffies and was potted up into the FF Seed Starter.. They should also help me guage the DIY Light's intensity with regards to stretch..

The second DQ in the pot sprouted but needed assistance with his helmit..😂

      Hey guys!
I am really looking forward to this grow. Objective is for personal breeding purposes.
This will be my first time experimenting with breeding cannabis, any help is appreciated 🙂

Currently growing Laughing Buddha (Barney's Farm) and Charlotte's Angel (Dutch Passion). Plan is to cross Novakane with these strains, as well as breeding Novakane F2 seeds.
Novakane F1 seeds were sourced from @Totemic. On a side note, just a thank you from my part. The beans I ordered arrived swiftly, with a lot of freebies! The quality of these seeds are unmatched.

Started germinating today, soaked 5 regular seeds for 30min in Explogrow. Afterwards transferring them to a 1:100 solution of Explogrow and pH 6 water for 12 hours.
Am a fan of the paper-towel method, and have had great success placing said paper-towel inside a plastic bag on top of my router. Will do this next...

      Grow setup:
      240W LM301b + Epistar 660nm Kingbrite Quantum Board
      Freedom Farms Premium Soil
      T.A. Pro Organic Nutrients
      1.2 x 0.7m Grow Tent
