West Coast Vaper
I was going to sit back and watch how this thread progresses and steal with my eyes. However since I got back from the bush pub tonight and sitting in the office with a spliff and another pint I've noticed fruit flies of a sort in the air. This is the first time since I've started growing indoors (close to 2 year's now) that I've had a fungas gnats problem. It is also the first time I have not mixed some cinnamon powder into my medium.I've used a variety of soils in the past (in our nursery plants and cannabis) and as a rule of thumb I always add cinnamon. No gnats.Sent from my S40 using Tapatalk
Weskush
Thanks @DamDave that's what i'm talking about! Doesn't cinnamon have any negative effect on soil micro-biology?
West Coast Vaper
Thanks @DamDave that's what i'm talking about! Doesn't cinnamon have any negative effect on soil micro-biology?I live on a farm that are specialists in veld and fynbos (specifically to the West Coast) propagation. Although it's far from cannabis it seems to work.Apparently no side affects from what I've researched on Google.Sent from my S40 using Tapatalk

West Coast Vaper
Thanks for the tip. What are the ratios when mixing it into the soil? There is no steadfast ratio. I usually put 50g to a 30l bag of soil. There are a few ways to apply from spraying to sprinkling on top of the soil.Sent from my S40 using Tapatalk
PsyCLown
@DamDave I have seen cinnamon being mentioned a few times, do you know how it actually works / what it does? I have read that it is a fungicide, so anyone wanting to use fungus to help with something may be better off avoiding the cinnamon. I am actually curious to try it out on some PM and see how it does... I might do just that, at least a single spray and see what happens compared to a single spray of some other remedies such as bicarb which is a contact killer. I did a test run using the propagation soil that is mixed on the farm a while back. When I asked about ingredients it was explained to me. Stoner me forgot. But like you say not ideal if you want to work with fungus in the grow.Sent from my S40 using Tapatalk

Weskush
I see this becoming a back and forth. Will rather remove. I would suggest taking a look the referred link that i got this from. this wasn't from my personal experience. Just a piece of advise that i found very interesting. How much weight it carries is up for debate. I'd rather step back and leave it up to those with experience.
Totemic
No need to retract... Just 'dominant' on its own as an adjective with reference to breeding could be easily misunderstood without more context

All of which can be considered dominant. So I've watch this video and part is extremely confusing to me mostly because he doesn't explain anything further and then the video cuts to him talking about female traits. But when talking about "dominate males" he mentioned something about males that show sex early being hermi prone, but later on he talks about him and Soma using single dominate male with recessive traits in multiple lines. I was super stoned when I watched with and it was like 1:00 am so I might've gotten lost somewhere. Edit: so I've re-watched it and he does go to explain that these "dominate males" carry the hermi trait and can be covered up using hybrid vigour etc... And then on the point of him talking about him and Soma he explains how the males they selected carried "dominate traits" that are desired in high THC producing strains. Very interesting watch, but the music is a bit distracting if you've smoked Edited September 15, 2021 by EastRandGrower
Totemic
It's a longish video so I'll see where I can fit it in, but yeah I don't refer to males in their entirety as dominant. I refer to dominant and recessive traits. I don't agree that early males are hermies or generally hermies even. That statement just isn't scientific enough. Hybrid vigor also does not suppress hermie nature. Activated and deactivated alleles just don't work that way. It's either recessive(one copy of the allele, activated, but not expressed), dominant(both alleles activated, and thus expressed), or entirely switched off. As for recessive traits.... It is not only special males that have recessives. All males have recessives, and most males will interact positively on females while others will produce ditch weed. Outdoors plants rarely show hermie traits, where if you take that same plant indoors, the hermie nature expresses easily. Weskush
Ja no i fully agree with your inputs and appreciate the feedback. Subcool was a full on guru but also an all-over-the-place stoner (meant with all respect) hence the loud tunes in the background while attempting to share valuable info haha! Interesting statements nevertheless... Thanks brothers. That's what makes this forum so special. To be educated by those that put in the hard graft and being able to share with fellow growers. Khakibos
@Weskush, he talks about some interesting stuff. The fact that him and Soma used the same male when breeding different lines because they were sure of it's traits. When he talks about terp profiles was also good (especially the part about the Gas terp profiles) Edited September 15, 2021 by EastRandGrower
